How did a 1955 Flxible bus fall into the hands of the Absolute Barbecue Company?
Sparks of ideas began to fly when Dana Clark, founder of the Absolute Barbecue Company, came to the aid of the U.S. Forest Service during the 2007 Bay Area wildfires. Constantly feeding hundreds of hungry, exhausted firefighters on short notice, Dana quickly became aware his biggest obstacle was loading, transporting and setting up kitchens. This required three trucks filled with ovens, broilers, grills, slicers, lighting, generators, tenting and well...you get the idea. Not to mention the tremendous amount of time which was scarce to say the least. The firestorm endured for days - as did the continual catering and the brewing of ideas. Dana's mind actively fanned those sparks imagining a fully equipped commercial kitchen on wheels, one that could also partake in the food truck craze. Not your average taco truck; something distinctive and head turning! One-of-a-kind, full service, catering on wheels, able to go anywhere and specialize in anything.
The object of Dana's desire (after a two year search for the perfect coach) Absolute BBQ Express was stripped not only of her interior but her old touring status and has evolved into what you see today. Our vintage classic 1955 Flxible baby (no, that's not a typo; the "e" was intentionally left out as a means of trademarking the name) is now equipped with more state-of-the-art amenities than we could list here. Just a few for fun...flat screen high definition TVs to ensure those crucial games/sporting events are not missed, stainless steel kitchen with more equipment than most brick and mortar restaurants including an authentic wood-burning pizza oven, deep fryers, grill ovens, broiler and more.
Our Flxible has a rich history beginning her life with the Utah Park's Company offering tours of the Grand Canyon from 1955 to 1973. Little did she know where she was bound. Next stop...astonishing tourists as she wound through Glacier National Park in Montana.
This vintage icon was scooped up by a lucky private party in 1994 providing him luxurious motor home accomodations not unlike Jay Leno's Flxible Bus. The year was 2010 when this absolute beauty was adopted by the Absolute Barbecue Company and bestowed the ultimate makeover. She makes her debut as the Absolute BBQ Express during the winter of 2013.
